The 49th gathering of the Programming Committee of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), that began from 9 am today in Soltee Hotel, Kathmandu, is talking about on re-organizing the territorial focuses with an exceptional spotlight on rejecting three SAARC focuses and combining four others.
At present, there are 11 provincial focuses in activity in SAARC.
The gathering, gone to by the joint-secretaries of all the part nations, has prescribed eliminating SAARC Information Center, SAARC Human Resource Development Center and SAARC Documentation Center that are in Nepal, Pakistan and India separately.
In like manner, the Committee has suggested consolidating SAARC Forestry Center, SAARC Disaster Management Center, SAARC Coastal Zone Management Center and SAARC Meteorological Research Center. These focuses are in Bhutan, India, Maldives and Bangladesh separately.
The last touch would be given to the suggestions by December 2015, Arjun Bahadur Thapa, the Secretary General of the SAARC secretariat told RSS.
The Programming Committe’s gathering is the starter occasion in association with the SAARC Summit where every one of the plans and issues are examined at the primary dimension.
From that point, the proposals made by the joint-secretaries are then sent to the higher bodies.
The gathering began with the handover function of the chairmanship from Maldives, which last facilitated the Summit in 2011, to Nepal which is facilitating the occasion this year.
